In our fast-paced world, finding time for mindfulness can feel impossible. But you don’t need an hour of silence to practice. Here are 5 simple exercises that take less than 5 minutes each.
1. The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique
Notice 5 things you see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This instantly brings you to the present moment.
2. One-Breath Gratitude
Take one deep breath. As you inhale, think of one thing you’re grateful for. As you exhale, smile. Do this 3 times.
3. Mindful Tea or Coffee
Instead of scrolling your phone while drinking, focus entirely on the experience. Feel the warmth, smell the aroma, taste each sip.
4. Body Scan in 60 Seconds
Starting from your toes, mentally scan up through your body, releasing tension as you go. Even 60 seconds of this can reset your nervous system.
5. Walking Mindfully
On your next walk, leave your phone in your pocket. Feel your feet on the ground, notice the air on your skin, and look at the world around you without judgment.
Start with just one of these today. Use our meditation timer to guide your practice.
